VIEW in association with Farcry Productions and Raelach Records are proud to announce an honorary benefit concert in support of the welfare of Tony Mac Mahon.
Tony Mac Mahon is a giant in Irish music. So great is his art, it has broken through the usual boundaries of discipline and genre and convention. When Irish traditional music and its ancient airs were at risk of being lost in a modern Ireland, Tony was to the forefront in putting soul back into the music and the music back into the hearts of the Irish people. His distinctive playing style – unsurpassed in its expressiveness – comes from deep within, engaging the listener in an ancient ritual that brings us all to some higher plane, a beyond place that gives us our purpose as human beings.
In this year of the commemoration and celebration of 1916 it is important not only to remember our honourable dead but also to honour our inspirational living. In the company of some of the artists that have travelled the road with Tony and been inspired by him Dublin City is delighted to celebrate Tony Mac Mahon’s art with this tribute and benefit concert in City Hall. Performances on the night will in include Peter Carberry & Padraig McGovern, Mary MacNamara & family, Caoimhín Ó Raghallaigh, Martin Hayes, Steve Cooney, David Power, Tríona and Maighread Ní Dhomhnaill, Noel Hill, Jack Talty, Cormac Begley, Tommy Doran.
The concert will include the launch of Tony’s latest CD – an album of solo slow airs recorded before Tony retired from public performance due to a hand tremor. All the proceeds from this event will go towards Tony’s healthcare needs.
Opening remarks by Gerard Flynn and Carl Corcoran will MC this event.
